What is Club Plate Scheme?

The club plate scheme, also known as club registration or historic vehicle registration, is a system that allows owners of older, classic, or historic vehicles to register their vehicles for a reduced cost and with some usage restrictions. This scheme is designed for vehicles that are not used for daily commuting or general transportation, but rather for recreational and club-related activities

Classic Vehicle Scheme (CVS)

Purpose:

  • ·        The primary purpose is to provide a more affordable registration option for vehicles that are not used for daily driving.
  • ·        It acknowledges that these vehicles are often cherished classics, collector's items, or vehicles used for specific events and activities.
  • ·        It allows owners to enjoy their vehicles, participate in club events, and maintain them without the expense of standard registration

As per Transport for NSW, below are the Eligibility and Usage Guidelines;

Eligibility for CVS:

  • your vehicle must be 30 years of age or older, counted from the year of manufacture
  • your vehicle must be 3.5 tonnes Gross Vehicle Mass or under
  • your vehicle must comply with the applicable NSW vehicle standards
  • you must be a current, financial member of a club affiliated with an approved organisation:
  • your vehicle can be a replica or an Individually Constructed Vehicle (ICV) that is 30 years of age or older (based on the build completion date).

Usage for CVS;

If your vehicle has classic vehicle registration, it can only be used:

  • for events organised by primary clubs affiliated with Transport for NSW approved organisations
  • for events organised by community organisations if an official invitation is received and recorded by the primary club in the official minutes or 'Day Book'
  • for short journeys to service and inspect the vehicle from your place of garaging
  • on longer journeys if you notify your primary club and the details are recorded in the primary club's official minutes.

We request that your Club’s Registrar be notified as a matter of urgency.

Please don’t respond to this if your Club doesn’t have CVS at this time – the information will be useful knowledge for all in future years.
